Introduction Municipal collection systems receive the water waste generated by a wide variety of generators within utility districts. Some wastes pose little problem for the collection system. Others, such as fats, grease, soap scum and cellulose, can stick to the collection lines and restrict the water flow, even to the point of causing blockage and subsequent back-ups. Clearing blocked lines, the traditional way, is a difficult job requiring expensive equipment and usually overtime labor. Back-ups are embarrassing and can be costly for utilities. The traditional method of clearing lines fouled with FOG (fat, oil and grease) is to mechanically remove it with jetting equipment. This is a labor and a capital intensive solution. Several chemical approaches have been taken to clear collection lines but they all have disadvantages. Now, through biotechnology there is a reliable and easy to use treatment that offers a preventative maintenance solution. Microorganisms are nature's own method of eliminating organic waste. Specially selected mixtures of live microbes, such as those in Epicore's products, along with the enzymes they secrete are well suited to digesting FOG and other organic matter as it enters and flows through the collection system. The by-products of microbial digestion are perfectly natural, environmentally safe substances like carbon dioxide and water.
Problems with Municipal Collection Systems Fat and grease, which are liquids in the restaurant, solidify when they reach the colder collection system water and plate out on the pipes and lift station equipment. The passing water does not dissolve it so it accumulates. An eight inch pipe can become blocked completely in only one month's time due to grease discharged from only a few restaurants. Laws on discharge and the threat of fines does not stop all the generators from discharging grease. The FOG that does not stick to the collection system surfaces can become a problem for the wastewater treatment plants. For decades utility collection departments have waged a non-stop battle against grease accumulations and root intrusion in their collection systems. Both of these problems can and do block sewer line flow, causing sewage overflows and backups into homes, businesses, hospitals, etc. For example, when the sewer line servicing six restaurants backs up, all six facilities are going to have sewage and grease backing up through the grease traps and into the kitchen and possibly the dining area. The health department will be called out and these businesses will incur problems that a restaurant cannot tolerate. Business owners will vent their outrage at the utility and the mayor and city council because it is their responsibility to see that this does not happen. Unfortunately, this happens frequently and the utility has to clean up the mess, deal with the public, and be warned by the mayor, "never let this happen again or else!" Currently, when sewer line flow is restricted or blocked due to grease accumulations, a high pressure water "jetter" or "vacuum truck" is called out. There are numerous problems associated with this treatment, both real and perceived. The perceived problems include the public's impression that the utility district does not fix anything until it breaks. The real problem is that jetting is labor intensive and, therefore, expensive. Furthermore, a lane of traffic will be blocked for a few hours to a couple of days. Jetters and hazardous solvent based degreasers treat the symptom not the disease. The Premier Biotechnology Solution Epicore is proud to offer LINEBAC Microbial Ecosystem for Municipal Collection Line and Wastewater Treatment. LINEBAC is a highly concentrated microbial ecosystem containing specialized natural microorganisms selected for maximum efficiency in the biodegradation of organic contaminants in industrial and municipal wastewater. LINEBAC was developed by Dr. Howard E. Worne who was acclaimed as the father of American bioremediation and was a scientist who dedicated his life to solving manmade pollution problems with his carefully researched concoctions of "bugs." LINEBAC is formulated to biodegrade the diverse range of contaminants that afflict collection systems. With its unique blend of aerobic and facultative anaerobic microorganisms, LINEBAC secretes significantly greater concentrations of highly effective enzymes than most normal strains of microflora found in collection systems. The LINEBAC microorganisms secrete high concentrations of lipase enzymes which solubilize FOG and facilitate microbial digestion. Additional Municipal Products LIPOSOLVE Municipal Emulsifier Municipalities experience hard grease and waste buildups in lift stations, collection lines, and in water treatment systems. This causes problems in the water flow and can be quite costly to rectify in addition this buildup, due to location is often times hard to service and may exist coupled with the hazards that are present in a sewer line system. Epicore's LIPOSOLVE Municipal Emulsifier is fortified with enzymes and biodegradable surface active agents to promote fast cleaning and on contact emulsification. LIPOSOLVE is designed to be used in emulsification of fats, oils, grease and other matter in municipal, commercial, and industrial waste water. LIPOSOLVE is formulated to work well in conjunction with the bacterial products to act as a nutrient and assist the digestion process for initial clean up efforts in difficult waste water systems. DEOBAC Biological Deodorizer and Odor Neutralizer DEOBAC is a highly concentrated, liquid microbial ecosystem containing specialized natural microorganisms and fortified with free enzymes. It contains a surfactant that improves wetting of odor causing material to improve microbial activity. DEOBAC is formulated for maximum efficiency in the biodegradation of organic odor causing contaminants found in municipal situations. GREASE-X Aqueous Cleaner and Degreaser GREASE-X is a water-based, concentrated heavy-duty liquid cleaner which penetrates and softens all forms of grease, fats and oil, emulsifying them on contact with water. It contains biodegradable non-ionic surfactants, chelating agents, and water. GREASE-X can be used in jetting equipment to help unblock FOG choked lines. It is ideal for cleaning jetting equipment after use in lines.
